The original frugalista! | Huggily-guggily | Creepy man in a Zebra costume at the Cultural Centre.. | At $2 a packet, henna is the cheapest perma-dye ever | At the movies watching Looper | Hopscotch in Elizabeth Arcade–major rip off artists! | $69 in Hopscotch, $20 on AliExpress for the exact same pants | Outfit of the day | At the KG markets yesterday–awesome | Totally inappropriate outfit to be selling hotdogs in | Celebrity herbs at the markets!! | We are the mobile hotdog vendors, aw yiss

The last two weeks were kind of interesting but nothing compared to what yesterday’s shenanigans consisted of! I went down to the Kelvin Grove markets to check in on how my team was doing selling their wares at the marketplace (the celebrity herbs, OMG!) and how the hotdog team was doing inside Woolworths and it was kind of yikes for me. Since a big passion of mine is marketing and promotion (having been in the industry for about four years now), I could see everywhere that could have been improved for that day to ensure a more successful sale. Like putting more posters up. And not in places like underground carparks or on the noticeboard of the second floor of a uni building that nobody is going into, haha.  And maybe just in general having more than two posters.

So I pulled them both down and put one at the head of the marketplace so people knew where to go, and with the other one, me and Brendan (the guy in the last picture) went and spruiked around the markets to try and get interest. That wasn’t reaaally working because people were unwilling to move, so we ended up taking mobile orders. I was kind of hesitant to do more than that though I knew that what we needed to do–i.e. have a barbecue set smack bang in the middle of the markets and not just tucked away in a Woolworths down some alleyway–because we didn’t have a food license and it wasn’t exactly lawful of us to be selling hotdogs out on the streets.

After some shenanigans making teams to run back and forth to Woolworths with hotdog and drink orders, I finally ended up crafting a little DIY hotdog table out of a box that used to have water bottles in it, with the sauces all nicely set up and the bread stacked up on the side, and then an empty gloves box lined with al-foil to keep the hotdogs/onions fresh (and clean!). Marketing skills, for the win. It was a pretty big hit, especially when we got another team mate to follow us along with cold drinks in a Green Bag as well.

It was really fun all in all, and some suggested that I join the marketing team instead of the web team, haha. Seriously considering it at this stage, should be easier than being on the web design team..

Anyways, there we go, that was my life the last few weeks in a few snapshots for you! :)

Luck be a Lady

Or maybe two ladies?! Welcome to round two in the battle of the frugalistas (yes, we’re running with that theme now; deal with it!).

This was the second part of our photoshoot with photographer Bryan Justin and F5 Productions at Manly Harbor. We had a pretty good time during this shoot if spending the entire time trying to prevent our stilettos from sinking clear through the bark around the trees we were instructed to stand against (“make love to the tree!”). I was most out of my element in this shoot as you can see from the semi-confused expression on my face in the last panel. The sun was really beating down on us and I have an intolerance to sun in my eyes so I spent most of the time squinting at the camera. Louisa though, as our seasoned Filipino model wasn’t very affected by the sun or the.. bark, and you can really tell she’s in her element in that gorgeous lace dress!

So here’s the rundown of items between us:

Candy Earrings – ValleyGirl, $6

Bronze Winged NecklaceEbay, $3

Lace Floral Dress – Ice, $30

Beige Belt – Ice, $7.50

Nude Pumps – Ice, $15

Total: $61.50

Gold Choker – Equip, $5

Gold Deer Skull NecklaceeBay, $3.00

Red Peplum Dress – Temt, $15 (similar on eBay here)

Belt – Free with that dress

70D Tights – Kmart, $3

(Leather) Bejeweled Stiletto Peeptoes – L&J Shoe Gallery, $25

Total: $51

The winner?! Sad to say, it looks like I took out round two as well, but it was so close this time–a mere $10 separates our outfits, making both ensembles highly awesome and highly affordable.

Baby, I’m a Rockstar

I am a gold addict. I love all things that glitter and sparkle. When you combine gold with different textures of black like I’ve done here, it just gives off this too-cool-for-school vibe that rockstars always seem to have and I’m constantly trying to achieve (you know, when I’m not trying to dress all “kawaii”).

This peplum top may look olive green in pictures and on the listing, but it’s actually a very nicely constructed gold mesh with a black background (so it gives off the olive hue). It’s best to match this top with bronze accessories but I’m not afraid to play with different shades of gold.

I got my hair newly dyed yesterday and did a little Russian Roulette with the henna packets. The result of mixing a bright orange with a dark red turned into a bright apple red and I’m not sure that I like it this saturated, but a change is a change. I could never be without red hair ever again. I love how it makes me feel; fiery and confident and every time I look at myself in the mirror under a blazing sunlight, I feel instantly energized.  You know I’m a big advocate of natural, unmodified beauty (because humans are naturally gorgeous just the way they are), but this is the one exception that I couldn’t live without, and I do it for myself, not others.

Here’s the rundown of what I’m wearing:

Gold Choker – Equip, $5

Gold Hair CuffeBay, $1.70

Belt – Jay Jays, 80c

Gold Peplum Top – eBay, $8 (update: Found it on AliExpress!!)

Bronze Leaf RingeBay, $1

Gold Cicada RingeBay, $1.20

Black Velvet Shorts – Temt, $10

Gold Sequin Clutch – eBay, $6.60 (Zara replica!)

Ezywalkin Leather Heels – Payless Shoes, $29

Total: $63.30. Yaaay!

It’s good to know that I’m not losing my touch yet. Uni has been so busy around this period that I honestly don’t know what to do with myself and I barely have the time to blog. This is the last semester of my degree and I’ve got one month to do, so everything has yet to hit the ceiling, but it’ll get there! If I duck away for a week or more sometime during November, fear not; I’m just running around like  a headless chicken (complete with the wild arm flailing) trying to reason the meaning of life and why the hell universities still force us to do group assignments, and more specifically why every one of my subjects this semester has a compulsory team element to it.

Carbon Copies XI

It’s a cinch.

I love belts. I’m  a big fan in particular of waist belts. Accessories have the power to make or break and outfit, and in my opinion, belts are the underrated accessory that just puts that extra “oomph” in an ensemble. These are a few of my favorite replicas floating around at the moment–mirror belts are huge at the moment and seemingly popping up everywhere, but they’re usually so expensive that I’ve offered up a few alternatives here that you can invest in instead.

1. Kitten D’Amour Roses Belt, $39 | eBay, $2.10 (many other colours too)

2. Moschino Belt, $280 | AliExpress, $23 (still kinda pricey, but everyone and their grandmother seems to want one of these lately and this is as cheap as it gets)

3. Burberry Prorsum Bow Belt, $364 | eBay, $2.80 (many other colours too)

4. Gold Mirror Belt, $50 | eBay, $6.30 (many other colours too)

5. Wide Red Obi Belt, $22 | eBay, $3.20 (many other colours too)

6. Gucci Python Tassel Belt, $1,200 | eBay, $5.00 (in silver, black and gold)

7. Modcloth Gold Leaf Belt, $17 | eBay, $4

I’ve bought that gorgeous python tassel belt from eBay a few weeks ago and I’m eagerly anticipating its arrival!

Any belts you wish you could find Carbon Copies of, or any ideas for future Carbon Copies posts? Leave a comment, and I’ll do my best to help! :)
